The Phoenix R.P.C. is a welcoming and creative group of passionate railway photographers. As it says in the “What We Do” section of this site, from its inception in the early 1970’s, the Circle’s aim has been to produce high-quality railway-themed photographs that don’t conform to the more usual front three-quarter views which were, and often still are, the mainstay of railway photography.
If you enjoy capturing the modern railway scene, share our photographic ideals, want to share your work, learn new techniques and connect with like-minded enthusiasts, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
Interested in Joining?
To help us get to know you and your photography, we ask new applicants to share a small portfolio showing a range of images and styles, along with a brief personal statement. Your work will be viewed by current members as part of the application process.
What to Expect
Following acceptance, you’ll be warmly welcomed into the Circle with the opportunity to take part in our:
- Monthly Public Display Galleries
- Quarterly Private Critique Galleries
- Circulating Print Boxes
Get Involved
We also enjoy occasional in-person social events, giving members the chance to meet and chat face to face in a relaxed setting, more often than not a heritage railway or other major railway centre.
All members are encouraged to stay active by contributing to either the online galleries, print box circulation or both. They are excellent ways to share your photography and receive thoughtful, constructive feedback. We also host regular workshops and presentations, offering fresh inspiration and new ideas.
For new members the first period of membership is free up to the Annual General Meeting each February when an annual subscription of £10 becomes payable.
