Avanti!

The Avanti shuttles between Preston and Carlisle created much interest during the first three weeks of January 2026, whilst the west coast main line was closed for an overbridge replacement at Clifton near Penrith, and other associated upgrades. A 10-car 805 'Evero' formation is seen here at Lunds, descending form the summit at Ais Gill. A sprinkling of snow, like icing on a cake, adorns the summit of the impressive Wild Boar Fell in the background.
