What We Do

From its inception in the early 1970's the Circle's aims have been to produce high quality railway themed photographs that didn't conform with the more usual front three quarter views which were, and often still are, the mainstay of railway photography.

With the membership spread over several countries the on-line, members only, Critique Galleries bring the membership together in a virtual way to appraise one anothers work. The on-line aspect has enhanced the well established Print Box circulation which has stood the test of time in the digital age. Aside from this the Circle produces a calendar each year made up of what are considered to be the best images produced during the year. Various exhibitions have been held over the years displaying members work and helping to engage with the wider public.

The main social event of the year is the A.G.M. with members usually taking advantage of time to get together both before and after for a photography session. At the A.G.M., Phoenix Photograph of the Year is announced, an accolade that every member aspires to achieve. Occasional days out and workshops, latterly hosted on-line via video link, complete the social side of the Circle.

Details of joining Phoenix are available on our Get In Touch page.
