Photograph of the Year 2022



Jim Knight won both Photograph & Photographer of the year 2022.

Jim's winnning entry was 'Last Train Home' taken on 30 April 2021 overlooking Barmouth Bridge on the Mawddach Estuary. Depicting the setting sun with a two-car diesel multipe unit midway across the impressive structure and taking in the wider scene. Jim wrote in his decription 'The image is a composite of three photographs, one of the train, merged with the sunset and mid-ground, with a longer exposure foreground'.

Runners Up

Second place 2021 Photograph of the year Stephensons Legacy by Andrew Shenton


Second place went to Andrew Shenton with his 'Stehenson's Legacy' shot taken on 13 November 2021. Depicting a couple Northern Rail class 150 units crosing the 1840 Gauxholme Viaduct, Todmorden with a splendid reflection and sunset.

 

Third place photograph of the year 2022 Under the wires by Stephen Veitch


Third place was awarded to Stephen Veitch for his 'Under the wires' capture featuring an LNER Azuma approaching Acklington, between Alnwick and Morpeth the harsh backlighting being used effectively.

As was mentioned at the top of the page Jim secured the top spot in Photographer of the Year as well at the Photograph of the Year.

Champagne Supernova

16 December 2021 and an TP Nova 2, 397010 catches some diffused light with the sun having only just dropped behind a cloudbank over the Lune Gorge beyond Tebay in the distance. It was working 1M97, the 12.12. Edinburgh to Manchester Airport service, caught at Greenholme on the West Coast Main Line.



Crossing the Clyde

A Nova 2 Trans Pennine Express unit crosses the River Clyde, Scotland in some of the last light of the 11th September 2021.

The Door is Alwys Open

And the windoe for that matter...... Otherwise the plate-layers hut is in remarkably good shape. LNER Azuma class 800 in the fog, with the Highland Chieftain, 1E13, 07:55 Inverness to London Kings Cross, Friday 23 July 2021.
