Time for reflection over coffee
The 'buffet bar' at Carlisle station between platforms 1 and 3 has been magnificently restored. Not as well known as the refreshment room at Carnforth, featured in David Lean’s 1945 film Brief Encounter, the bar at Carlisle Citadel station is best described as being like an old dining-hall but on a small scale. Sir William Tite (1798-1873) was indeed the designer of Carlisle Station (completed in 1847) as he was of Carnforth, completed in the same year. 87002 is reflected in the window.
